VISION + MISSION

Compelling Missional Disciples are followers of Jesus formed at the intersection of pursuing the tangible presence of God through worship and prayer, being formed out of the ways of the world into the way of Jesus, and joining God on sacrificial mission for the renewal of all things. We believe this happens in three shifts:

From gospel resistance to tangible presence

We want to see people go from Gospel resistance to loving and pursing the tangible presence of God through a culture of prayer and worship.

From a selfish orientation to counter formation

We want to see people move from a selfish orientation to practicing counter-formation in the way of Jesus by learning how to walk daily in His ways, and not in the ways of the world.

From worldLy ambition to sacrificial mission

We want to see people trade their worldly ambition to live on sacrificial mission with the Holy Spirit for the renewal of all things by serving the poor and seeking the lost.

DISTINCTIVES + DISCIPLINES

In New York City, there is an unspoken minimum standard for almost everything — business, design, advertising, finance, art. Excellence is the expectation. Why should New Yorkers tolerate a mediocre soul when they demand excellence in ever other area of life?

We created a radical minimum standard for discipleship. What follows are nine clear marks of what what we believe form compelling missional disciples (disciplines) and what a compelling missional disciple actually looks like (distinctives).

REVIVAL + AWAKENING | Contending Prayer

We resist complacency and cultivate radical hunger by contending for revival and awakening with expectation for God’s accelerated work.

We create space for The Holy Spirit and take risks with Him, expecting without agenda, listening, and obeying.

RADICAL DAILY PURSUIT | Feasting on the Word

We abide in Jesus by saturating our lives in Scripture and are transformed by revelation and sound doctrine, rather than discouraged by routine religion.

COMMUNITAS | Core Accountability

We embody God’s vision for mission-oriented, sacrificial friendship rather than the enemy’s vision for self-serving, superficial friendship through Communitas, bonds forged through shared struggle and adventure.

DISCIPLE THE DEFICITS | Confessing Sin

We move from competency to confrontation in disciple-making by resisting personal preferences, confessing sin, and addressing our blindspots in order to yield true transformation and maturity.

CRUCIFIED + CONSECRATED | Fasting

Our culture says life is found in self-fulfillment but Jesus says life is found in self-denial, so we crucify our personal preferences and opinions to join Jesus in His work of restoration through consecration.

DISCIPLE-MAKING | Weekly Disciple-Making

Instead of outsourcing disciple-making, we aim to make every disciple a disciple-maker by equipping and empowering disciples to follow one another as they follow Christ.

We live on the redemptive edge by blessing the last, least, and lost through practicing generosity, welcoming interruption, and leveraging margin rather than remaining behind barriers built by culture and comfort.
